MUDDY RUCKUS
Muddy Ruckus represent the darker side of the American Roots revival. They see the world as it exists through a dark lens and in a sordid kind of way it's very refreshing. 'Running Out of Sound" is a way of saying there are just no more words to flash as a warning of impending suffering. That sounds worse than it is but it's feeling you get when hearing the truth. From The Extended Play Sessions Fallout Shelter. Halcyon represents looking back on something fondly...in the case of Muddy Ruckus it's looking back on something fondly with the energy, angst and exhilaration of a blistering backbeat and some "phat-ass" guitar licks. The energy Ryan Flaherty and Erika Stahl put out on 'Halcyon' could power a small city and keep it awake all night. It's what they do...write cool songs and then smash them over your head while you dance uncontrollably...
A mix of blues, heavy rock influences and dark folk permeate the sound of Muddy Ruckus. The duo of Ryan Flaherty and Erika Stahl create a 'carnival of macabre' with their music that is the aural equivalent a Netflix 'binge watch' of apocalyptic darkness rolled into moments of blistering brilliance. As unique as it is perplexing and exquisitely refreshing to see two young musicians buck every trend to go their own route and come out on the other end with something so fucking good!
