SETH ROSENBLOOM
There's a growing crop of young blues musicians coming out of Boston these days that are exciting, talented and dynamic. Erin Harpe, Sonya Rae Taylor, Ryan Taylor, Seth Rosenbloom, Sugar Blood Jinx, Soul Box are among this new and inspiring movement of great blues talent. The coming years are going to be special to watch as these young artists continue to develop and mature and The Extended Play Sessions is staying on the cutting edge of this inspiring movement.
Perhaps the most incendiary and soulful guitar player to rise from the Boston area since 'Monster' Mike Welch in the 1990's is Waltham, MA native Seth Rosenbloom. Rosenbloom has chops to burn and an innate feel for the blues that is reminiscent of a young Mike Welch or the current flag bearer for the genre Joe Bonamassa. It's his "feel" and sparsity that was most impressive...the approach 'why play 30 notes when you can say it with more feeling and more meaning with these 10?" You can see it in eyes, read it on a sweat drenched brow that Seth Rosenbloom feels this music from his soul and it pours out through his hands...and he's just getting started as a songwriter. That part will come along and get better with time and world experience both good and bad. He's surrounded himself with seasoned and highly accomplished session players from Boston's elite pool of accomplished side-men including the inimitable Bruce Bears on Hammond organ and piano, Jesse Williams on bass and stalwart drummer Dave Fox. These guys have been doing it on the main stage for decades and they impart wisdom and experience on to a whole host of young and rising stars in the New England region.
Seth is releasing a new album later this month called "Keep On Turning" with a collection of originals and a few tastily prepared covers and he ran through most of the albums original songs during this performance on The Extended Play Sessions. Having a great band allowed the songs to breathe and develop, highlighting the intricacy of the melodies and the soul of the solos.
