Season 10 of The Extended Play Sessions kicked off on a very sad note with the passing of our friend and great musician Joseph "Smokey" Holman. "Smokey" fought a hard fight with cancer and succumbed on October 29th, 2017 at the age of 64. He was a beautiful soul, a sweet man and made the world a better place. Tweed Funk made their second visit to the Fallout Shelter on August 4th on the Grand Opening of the new Fallout Shelter Studio. Smokey, JD Optakar, Eric Madunic, Andrew Spadafora and Dave Schoepke were ON FIRE! Smokey was a bit thin and sat through his performance but no one cared...he brought it like he always did and the band didn't miss a note! Kick back and enjoy one of the great soul/bluesmen "Smokey" Holman and Tweed Funk!
"Walk with purpose to your destiny..." The message in Tweed Funk's "Don't Give Up" is all about following your own path and steering clear of negative energy. It took on a whole new meaning after Joseph "Smokey" Holman's battle with cancer last year as the group never gave up and, for a brief moment, they were back with power. Eric Madunic(bass) steals the show on this song with a Motown groove straight out of the James Jamerson playbook and killer backing vocals behind Holman. Andrew Spadafora sometimes reminds me of the great Johnny Reno when he hits a groove like "Don't Give Up." Dave Schoepke (drums) is Rolex perfect and Jd Optekar's guitar fills made this one of the highlights of an evening of highlights.
